What is Sharplight Pulsed Light ?

Pulsed-Light Philosophy uses hand held flash lamps that emit gentle pulses of light, which are absorbed in different skin lesions. Excellent long-term results are achieved when treating hair, superficial capillaries, skin pigmentation, acne and other skin lesions. Light based technology is based on a method called selective photothermolysis.  It is a selective destruction of a specific target without damaging surrounding tissue.

How does it work?

The light spectrum has various wavelengths. Specific wavelengths are defined to help hair, superficial capillaries, skin pigmentation, acne, stimulate collagen production and other skin lesions. The Beamax system has different hand pieces which are easily interchangeable to access theses different wavelengths. The Hair Reduction handpiece has a wavelength of  635nm. The skin rejuvenation handpiece has a wavelength of 580nm. The Sun Spot & Vein hand piece has a wavelength of 535nm.

Can I have the treatment done right away?

No. First a medical history needs to be done. The client is then tested with the IPL. Two to four days  is required to see, if the client has a photosensitive reaction.   Drugs, skin ingredients such as Retin  A and Glycolic acids can cause the skin to over react to the IPL.

Is IPL painful?

Sharplight hair removal treatments are non-invasive, clean and relatively painless. Suitable for, any body area, and size. They use a unique smooth pulse technology which is safe and reliable, offering permanent hair reduction results, with minimum discomfort.

How much surface area is worked on per pulse?

Pulsed-light technology uses hand held flash lamps which are  (6.4 cm2) in size . This compares with the top half of a thumb.

How does it work?

Accepted Answer

The IPL is attracted to the pigment in the skin or the melanin the hair.  For effective results a good contrast is needed . People with light skin, and dark hair have better results, than someone with dark skin and  dark hair, for Hair Reduction. Treatments on the skin can be done on people with skin types 1, 2, 3, and 4 for Skin Rejuvenation. Treatments on the skin can be done on people with skin types 1, 2, and 3, for Sun Spot & Vein Treatments.

Can I have a tan?

No. It is important to have minimum exposure to the sun while you are having IPL treatments.  The Beamax can't be set as high, when the skin is darker for treatments on the skin.

Can I get waxed while getting hair reduction?

Accepted Answer

No. The hair has three stages of growth. IPL is effective when hair is in the first stage of growth. The hair needs to be attached to the root. You can compare it to the candle and wick. The candle won't burn unless the wick is attached to it. You want to damage the follicle, that grows the hair.

How much hair is damaged during each session?

About 20-25% of human hair follicles are in the growth phase at any given time. This is the percentage of hair follicles that can be destroyed in a single treatment session. In order to eliminate almost 70% to 95% of the hair, treatment has to be repeated until the desired result is achieved.

I have red hair. Am I eligible for IPL treatments?

Blonde and Grey hair have no melanin, they would not be suitable for this type of hair reduction. There are many types of red hair and success with IPL laser would be uncertain.

Will I get better results if I come in more often, for hair reduction?

Accepted Answer

The typical treatment regimen is 5-7 treatments, spaced 4- 12 weeks apart depending on body area. IPL weakens the ability of the growth of the hair. The more  treatments you have, the longer it takes for your hair to grow.  I recommend adding  an extra week of waiting time, in between IPL hair reduction sessions .

Do I have to take any extra measures  before and after an IPL treatment?

Yes, I give all my clients  information about precautions they need to do before and after the IPL sessions.

What is the age eligibility for having IPL?

Accepted Answer

The age requirement for  Hair Reduction is 16 for girls and 18 for boys. The age requirement for Skin Rejuvenation and Sunspot & Veins, is 25 years old.

Can you explain the timing for Skin rejuvenation and  the Sunspot and Vein treatments.

The typical regimen is an average of 4-6 treatment sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart. A full facial skin rejuvenation treatment takes 15-30 minutes, after which you can continue your daily routine.  It can only be applied, to face, neck, décolleté, arms and hands. The skin is thinner in these areas.
